Why do I need a termite inspection?

In Australia, 1 in 3 properties are at risk of termite infestations. Don’t be one of the many unfortunate property owners who discover a major expense bill when their property structure becomes weakened due to wood eating termites! A regular annual termite inspection will save you hundreds of dollars in the long term and give you added peace of mind.

What does a Termite look like?

Subterranean termites (those most commonly seen in homes) are a similar size to a black ant except they are pale in colour. That’s why they are often called “white ants”. If you look closely, termites have two sections to their body while ants have three. Soldier termites have a slightly darkened, or brown, head. You will also see termites with wings, called alates. Sometimes confused for moths, the alates fly out from the colony in search of a new environment in which to reproduce and develop a new colony. Subterranean termites are only one of the termite species found in Australia.

How often do I need to get a termite inspection done?

A termite inspection is recommended at least annually by the Australian Standard AS3660 (or every 6 months depending on the condition of your house) Most house insurances do not insure you against termite infestations. Termites aren’t always easy to spot.  There are sometimes tell-tale signs like mud tunnels, but termites can be very clever at hiding their tracks. If you suspect that you have termites, you should invest in an inspection as soon as possible with one of our qualified technicians.

What does a termite inspection include?

  • A thorough inspection of roof void, subfloor, home interior and exterior areas (including external buildings)

  • Comprehensive electronic report that complies with Australian Standards (minimum 14 pages) outlining our findings with a  room-by-room analysis of the home identifying defects or concerns.

  • Quick turnaround including the inspector’s verbal summary and discussion about the findings of the pest inspections.

  • Property specific advice and recommendations to help you better control and prevent infestation.

Do you perform Pre-purchase building & pest inspections? What's involved & why do I need one?

Buying a home or investment property is likely to be one of the biggest investments most of us will ever make, and for a small financial outlay, you will receive an informative assessment regarding the condition of a property which could save you thousands of dollars in treating timber pest issues that could occur in the future. Similarly, structural issues can cause huge financial headaches – and building issues can be present in both new and old homes. A Handover Inspection is essential for identifying items for rectification before your builder's warranties expire.

06

My house is newly built / not very old - do I still need an annual termite inspection?

Absolutely! New construction is no longer a problems-free guarantee. While many new homes are well built, we find serious defects can still occur. If you’re moving into a new home it's recommended you have a annual termite inspection to ensure peace of mind.

07

I've found termites in my home / gardens - can I treat them myself (DIY) ?

We recommend that you engage a professional pest manager. The termiticides required for the job are only available to licensed pest controllers and can be harmful to people and pets if not handled correctly.
